Maximizing Impact and Intentionality: 2021 Annual Breakfast Recap

On Friday, December 10, 2021, our community gathered in celebration of all we have accomplished together in the past year, and to look ahead at our vision for 2022 and beyond. Our audience heard from BBBSMT CEO Melissa Hudson-Gant, a roundtable of community leaders, Bigs and Littles, and our agency partners about the impact of mentorship and how we are innovating to maximize our impact with intentionality in all we do.

Maximizing Impact and Intentionality

Our theme for the 2021 Annual Breakfast was Maximizing Impact and Intentionality. A commitment we’ve made is to ensure that justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion are woven into every aspect of our agency. A vital aspect of this work is seeing to it that our agency’s leaders, staff, board members and Bigs reflect the diverse communities we serve. Representation matters for everyone, but especially our kids because if you can see it, you can be it. This is the foundation of our agency from which everything is built on.

The Importance of dei in youth development

One of the highlights of the hour was a roundtable discussion of community leaders who came together to talk about the importance of centering diversity, equity and inclusion in all aspects of youth development. Moderated by Fox 17 anchor and reporter Erika Glover, who also serves as a Big Sister with BBBSMT, the conversation touched on everything from dismantling disparities and rethinking the labels we use to holistic support for our youth and what gives them hope for the next generation. In case you missed it, or you enjoyed it so much that you want to watch it again, take a look at the conversation below.

Intentional Partnerships to Maximize Impact

Another segment of the 2021 Annual Breakfast was a deep look into two of our dynamic partnerships with Meharry Medical College and Metro Nashville Public Schools. Both of these partnerships serve as a vehicle to intentionally maximize our impact among our LGBTQ and African American Littles. Meharry has designated BBBSMT as its preferred service organization for students completing volunteer hours as scholarship requirements, which creates a strong pipeline of African American mentors. Our partnership with MNPS allows us to embed mentorship into their school system with an LGBTQ-informed approach, and help identify students who may benefit from the power of mentorship. Learn more in the video below.

MATCH STORIES OF IMPACT

There is a consensus among our breakfast goers that our match stories are by far the best part of the breakfast each year. Thought leadership, innovations and partnerships are great to hear about, and they are crucial to the work we do, but the reason for it all is to continue igniting the power and promise of Middle Tennessee youth. Get out your tissues and meet two of our incredible matches below.

THANK YOU!

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who tuned in to our 2021 Annual Breakfast, read this recap, and has supported us with your time and treasure. This year’s program was made possible by our generous sponsors featured below, and we are so grateful to have each of them in our corner as defenders of potential.
